I live in New Zealand, a country where prostitution is legal. The main problems with the legalisation of prostitution is the regulation and protection of the prostitutes themselves. Under systems where the business is underground and illegal, they have no protections and there is no guarantee of safety for either the prostitutes or clients.
In New Zealand's system, prostitutes have the option of running their own businesses as SOOBs (Small, owner-operated brothels). They are given the same legal protections as any other business owner and as such enjoy a safer environment for all involved. They also have the option of working in a brothel, which are held to certain standards, as any other business would be.
